If the Covid-19 pandemic had any advantages to it, it was that it has transformed the way businesses think about working. No longer do employees have to be tied to their desks between the hours of 9 and 5, only emerging for an hour-long lunch half-way through the day. Now, work can be completed wherever and whenever employees want to, allowing time for the school run, a quick shopping trip or a stress-free dentist or doctor’s visit, all made up for with a couple of hours done early in the morning, or later at night.
And of course, sitting in your favourite library or coffee shop while you get on with answering emails or working out statistics is a very achievable, so why not keep on working even as you explore some of London’s best working spaces on your visit to the big city?

The British Library
Why not feel like a real Londoner by setting up your laptop in one of the Reading Rooms? You’ll have to sign in, so be prepared to give over some of your details before you’re let inside, but once you’re in, the Wi-Fi is free and there is a choice of rooms for you to try out, so you can find the perfect place to do your best work! Of course, do make sure, if you’re going to be taking and making calls or jumping onto online meetings, that you are allowed to talk in your chosen spot!
The Library Lounge
Not a library any more, unlike the British Library, this beautiful and welcoming space is a lounge that is designed to be a welcoming and tranquil space for readers, researchers and home-workers of all stripes. Housed in the building that used to be the home of the Camden Council Library, you don’t need to worry about being hushed – the building is the home of several podcasts and DJ sets! There’s also a small but substantial eatery where you can keep yourself fed and watered as you work.
Shaman Coffee, Bermondsey
If you love the gentle hubbub of a coffee shop background as you make your deals and type up correspondence, this welcoming coffee shop is the place for you. Set up shop and power through, assisted nobly by frequent trips to top up your coffee cup, then try out some of the delicious meals before heading back to your pied-à-terre for the duration of your visit to London, perhaps a stay in one of the many London aparthotels that are becoming ever more popular with visitors to the city.
In truth, most restaurants and cafés offer free Wi-Fi to their customers, and – as long as you make it worth their while – will not object to you taking up a space for a couple of hours while you catch up with some work, answer emails or even make record-breaking money transactions! The world is largely online, and this means that you now have a great deal of freedom when it comes to how, where and when you work.
