Plus Size Spring Fashion Ideas

Spring is here, which means the weather is about to go full chaos. One minute it’s sunny and mild, the next it’s hailing sideways and blowing your dress halfway over your head. So, when it comes to plus size fashion, spring is all about clever layering, breathable fabrics, and outfits that make you feel good and hold up to surprise weather changes.

Make Your Raincoat the Main Character

Let’s start with the most practical part of your spring wardrobe: the raincoat. If you live in the UK, you’ll know it can and will rain at any moment, whether it’s forecast or not. So having a waterproof that actually fits, keeps you dry, and looks good? That’s essential.

One brand I’ve been looking at is Lighthouse Clothing. They go up to a size 24, but I will say this upfront, some of their pieces, especially the coats, come up a bit small. So if you’re in between sizes or like a bit of room for layering, I’d definitely recommend sizing up two for the raincoats.

One of my favourite finds from them this year is the Outback Full Length Waterproof Raincoat in Fern, £84.99. This one is full-length (yes please to keeping your whole dress dry), with a nice A-line shape that actually gives a bit of movement and style instead of looking boxy. The Fern colour is this beautiful earthy green that still feels bold without being too loud, and it goes really nicely with floral prints, neutrals, and even brighter tones.

It’s fully waterproof and windproof, which makes it perfect for those long dog walks, dashing to the shops, or trying to enjoy a day out without getting soaked. It’s also got a lovely striped lining, a two-way zip, and a detachable hood. Basically, it looks like something you actually want to wear, not just something you’ve thrown on because the forecast ruined your outfit plans.

Easy Spring Layers for Dress Lovers

If you’re a fellow dress obsessive like me, spring is the perfect time to play around with layering. Think floaty midi dresses with oversized cardigans, long sleeve tees underneath sleeveless dresses, or even a cropped jumper over a maxi to fake that two-piece look.

I love mixing textures here too. A soft knit over a cotton or linen dress adds a bit of warmth and contrast. Throw on some opaque tights for the chilly mornings, and then whip them off once the sun decides to show up properly.

Longline cardigans and utility-style jackets are great alternatives to traditional coats too, especially when you want something lighter. Look out for breathable fabrics, and pieces with a bit of stretch or movement so you’re not restricted when you’re out and about.

Say Yes to Colour

Spring is the time to start introducing more colour again, especially if you’ve been living in greys and blacks all winter. Bright raincoats are a great way to ease into it if you’re not ready to go full neon. The berry and fern tones at Lighthouse are both lovely and feel a bit more grown-up than standard raincoat colours.

You can also bring in colour with accessories. Think patterned scarves, colourful crossbody bags, and fun statement earrings. These are all great ways to freshen up a more neutral outfit without committing to head-to-toe brightness.

So whether you’re out walking the dog, doing the school run, or just trying to enjoy a rare dry day with a coffee in hand, these spring pieces can help you feel like you again, comfortable, confident, and ready for whatever the weather throws your way.
