There have been some truly amazing TV series come out so far in 2019, whether brand new or the next series for an already successful show., and there are loads more due to come out! I can’t wait for Stranger Things. Here are some of my current favourites.
Game of Thrones
Is it really already the final series? I’m both thrilled and also terrified that they are going to break my heart and kill off all my favourite characters. They better leave Sir Brienne of Tarth alone or I seriously might actually cry. I’ve read the books and love the series too, and I’m fascinated to see who, if anyone, ends up on the Iron Throne. It’s been a real rollercoaster and I’m sure that it’s going to be an emotional mess by the end.
Santa Clarita Diet
We’re onto the third series of this Netflix show and it just gets better and better. Far from being about diets, it’s about a suburban family whose matriarch Sheila accidentally becomes undead after eating tainted clams. The series explores them trying to hide Sheila’s new lust for flesh by having her murder nazis to eat, all whilst trying to run their own real estate business. I don’t feel like it’s gotten anywhere near enough attention online, and I will happily watch anything with Timothy Olyphant in it, so give it a go! Sadly Netflix has just announced that they have cancelled Santa Clarita Diet, so the three series is all we are getting.
Line of Duty
Any list of 2019’s best TV shows would be completely remiss if they didn’t include Line of Duty. It’s BBC police drama and it’s absolute best. It follows AC12, a unit that investigates corruption within the police and well… that’s about all I can tell you because I don’t want to risk spoiling it. You need to watch it right from the beginning, any missed moment could be crucial. It’s been so clever in how it’s written tying together different storylines. It’s so intricate and brilliant, I’m intrigued to see how it all ends up. The fantastic Stephen Graham has joined the cast for this series full of twists and turns.
Shrill
OK so disclaimer first, I haven’t actually seen Shrill yet, but I will be watching it as soon as I can. I’m including it in this line up because what I have seen is my twitter feeds reaction to it and their absolute joy at it. Shrill is based on Lindy West’s book Shrill: Notes From A Loud Woman and features a fat female lead character who wants to change not her body, but her life. I’ve seen many comments from plus size babes talking about how it’s the first time they feel like they’ve really seen themselves represented on screen, and so much talk about the famous pool scene that I can’t wait to watch it.
