There is nothing quite as exciting as a baby shower. Not only are you filled with the ever-building excitement of a brand new baby, but its a wholesome way to spend quality time with the nearest and dearest of the Mum-to-be. If you want to take your baby shower up to the next level, there are a few things you can do to make it feel extra special. Here are five tips for throwing the ultimate baby shower.

Come up with some exciting games

A baby shower is a great way to bring people together in celebration of the imminent arrival of a baby, sharing in joy with the Mum-to-be and even giving her some great presents that she can put to use when her bundle of joy arrives. But the other reason a baby shower is so much fun is that you can play some great games. One suggestion is to collect baby photos from all attendees and have everybody try to work out whose photos is whose, or another could be to sniff things that are smeared in a nappy and guess what they are – although this one is for the more strong-stomached attendees!

Keep the bubbly flowing

Just because you are at a baby shower, doesn’t mean that the bubbles shouldn’t be flowing – in fact, there’s no better time! Grab a case of Dry Dragon for that element of luxury as you clink your glasses at this baby shower. Low alcohol also means low sugar, which makes this a healthier option to bring to any celebration, so you can make the day feel special while still monitoring your sugar intake.

Good food is key

If you can’t have good food at a baby shower, when can you?! The first thing to think about is the cake – go for a hard-wearing sponge over anything too delicate, so that it can be decorated to look super cute and so that people can pop a slice in their bags to go home. Other than that, a party style buffet usually does the trick – I like to make my foods fit a theme, so I might serve drinks in baby bottles, for example, though I draw the line at blending everything up into baby food!

Provide space to relax

A lot of socialising in one day can be exhausting for anybody, but particularly when you’re heavily pregnant and dealing with hormones and general fatigue. In order to avoid overwhelm for the guests and the Mum-to-be alike, provide spaces where people can get away to comfortably grab a few minutes at a time to themselves. Perhaps this would be a good place to put a baby memory book that people could leave a message in! This will ensure everybody feels much more relaxed and like they can enjoy the day.

Make it a surprise

It’s often up for debate whether or not a baby shower should be a surprise. On the one hand, having the Mum-to-be involved in the planning means that she can make sure everything that she wants to happen is slated to happen on the day. However, I always prefer to lean into the surprise element where I can (presuming the Mum-to-be likes surprises!) so that it feels like an extra special effort has been made on the day.
