A festival, for fashion, for us plus size girls!? Yep, that’s right! For the third year running the Curve Fashion Festival will take place and it promises to be bigger and better than it’s previous years. We cannot wait!
The event is being held at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool for the second year running on Saturday 9th September. I, for one, want to make the most of my time in Liverpool and I am thinking of making a weekend of it – it would be rude not to right!? It’s great that there will be loads of brilliant plus size babes there, including all of your favourite bloggers. I loved getting to chat to some ladies I’d never met before, whilst taking snaps on behalf of Lovedrobe last year.
Last year my highlights were seeing some of my favourite plus size bloggers take to the stage to talk about a whole host of fab topics including body confidence, seeing new collections take to the runway including Hayley Hasselhoff’s first collection with Elvi, getting some outfit inspiration from the catwalk, and of course being able to pick up a few things I’d seen on the day to add to my wardrobe with some fabulous discounts.
This year’s event is held in partnership with New Look; I’m told we can expect fashion shows, giveaways, and exclusive discounts to purchase items from the New Look Curves range, they weren’t selling at last year’s show so it’s really exciting to see that they are this time round.

As well as being accessories obsessed, I’m also eyeshadow obsessed. I’m a sucker for a pretty palette filled with lots of colours just like a paintbox. The current trends of oranges and pinks have called to me and I’ve invested in some great palettes to meet those trends, but I will always lean towards a gorgeous natural palette that I can use every day.
So it was only right that when one of my fave eyeshadow brands, Too Faced, brought out their latest offering of the Natural Love Eye Shadow Collection that I invested in it on the US release day! Luckily there was free international shipping so I only had to pay fees and taxes of just over £12. Considering the usual Royal Mail handling fee from the US is £8, plus taxes on top, that’s pretty darn good!
It took its sweet time getting here, I’m presuming because of the popularity and the free shipping deal, but when it did get here I was super happy! There are 30 shades, some are new and limited edition, some are favourites from their previous smaller natural eye palettes, and some are from past LE collections: so there’s quite a mix. I give more detail on shades on my blog if that’s your thing, but here I’ve picked out my favourite five shades.
This is such a great palette if neutrals are your thing. Some of the lighter Matte shades don’t have amazing payoff, but it’s only a few and overall as a palette it still works. Again some of the darkest shades don’t come out as dark as the pan, but for a natural palette it’s fine. If you’re after a good matte black then the shade in this palette is not the one.
It’s £52 on the US site, and it is looking like it will be released in the UK mid to the end of April. Keep your eyes peeled!
I’ve always liked a good pair of jeans, however the last few years my interests waned slightly when I wandered into tregging territory because, let’s be honest, Plus Size jeans can be sooooo uncomfortable to wear – and nobody got time for that! It all changed after I got hooked on an amazing denim skirt from River Island Plus in the summer, and I was yearning for something to wear with all my crop tops that was more autumn appropriate.
It was then I decided to try ASOS Curve Ridley High Waisted Jeans in washed black. They were brilliant! Fabulously stretchy with a high enough waist for me, which is rare thanks to my long body and no waist shape, and they looked great with all the crop tops I had planned for them. They then started to make it into my daytime wardrobe and suddenly cosy jumpers were added, as was a lighter wash jean in the same style as we headed to spring. At £25 they are bargainous too. I’d finally found my perfect jean! There are many sub-styles in the Ridley style too; with rips, frays and arched hems all featuring. These jeans now range from £28 to £35.
Another bargainous pair are the Simply Be Lucy Jeans. I mean, if they are named after me I should also really be investing in them! Zoë from the SMB team looks smoking in her black pair! Again, the fit is great with a decent high waist and some slight stretch to make them a brilliant skinny jean. Her advice is to size down once in these (she’s wearing a size 18 and is a size 20/22) for the best fit, and you can choose your length! I love that they come in a longer length and 4 different washes so there’s plenty of choice available, and they are priced at £26-£27.50.
Kelly from Jelly with the Belly also recommends the Simply Be Lucy. Again, she says they come up high and are actually a skinny jean style, not some kind of straight fit / bell bottom nightmare. So much so she says they made her ‘fall back in love with jeans again’ – I think I’m going to have to try my namesake ASAP!
Finally Abi from A Is For Abi recommend the New Look Jenna jeans, as they have fab stretch and have some give to accommodate hips which is perfect for those blessed with them. They are also true to size and only £27.99. Currently they are available in a mid blue ripped style and a white ripped style which are perfect for summer!
I think it’s safe to say I’ve truly rediscovered jeans now and I’ve just placed a cheeky order for another ASOS Curve Ridley pair in the sale. Hopefully, if you were thinking of trying some new jeans then this mini guide has helped!? Or maybe you have a fave style that you can share, let us know on here or on social!
Finally, a little related denim news: some of the SMB team went to Evans HQ to check out their new season denim offerings so keep an eye out for a full report of what we got up to there (spoiler… it involves personalisation!!)
Beloved Endeavour started out as a stockist of vintage plus size clothing after the founder, Diane, struggled to find vintage clothing for herself. After opening an Etsy shop following a successful eBay launch, she then opened their very own website. Beloved Endeavour also recently started stocking some current trend pieces which I was sent to style and show off! They still have some fab vintage pieces too, so it’s a great way to add more current trends with some timeless pieces to your wardrobe in one fell swoop.
So far they have 4 dresses in their modern section, and if you stalk their Instagram you can see that will be expanding with two fabulous print dresses for summer. There’s one I have my eye on especially. It’s so pretty and pastel, with a great print!
The first dress I tried was the Samarie Dress, at £45, which comes in sizes 16 to 26 and is a lovely, thick scuba material with a silver sequin hem. The sequin hem is semi sheer and so the light shines through it and it’s super sparkly! It also adds a little bit of interest and I’m glad it’s not completely opaque. I did find I needed lighter colour shorts underneath as my usual black ones showed through this material as I spotted in one of the photos! I’m wearing a size 20 here and it’s fits very true to size. As well as the navy variant, it also comes in black which is a perfect for a night out I always think.
The other dress I tried was the Mesh Detail Marley Dress at £69. This one comes in sizes 18-22 and is also true to size, I’m wearing the 20 here. It has a nude lining which is quite a thin material, and did show my belly button until I added some high waisted pants! The mesh continues down past the lining at the bottom which I like a lot too.
The lighter parts can show off more of your body, but if you like to rock your VBO then this is perfect. The material is lovely and you can see in the details that it’s very well tailored too. The sleeves were just about long enough for me, I could have done with maybe an extra cm or two, being 5’11” I’m used to this to be honest and I only really noticed when looking back at these photos!
I styled it with my Pom Pom Sandals from Debenhams and my Butterfly by Matthew Williamson embroidered bag (currently in the sale!) as I thought I’d be more likely to wear this dress to a meal out, however you could wear it as a smarter day look too with some tights and loafers.
The fourth dress they currently stock is a velvet sleeveless dress, which comes in sizes 20-24 and is a stretch black velvet. The founder, Diane, is super lovely which I think it’s so important when running a small business. After chatting to her I know she’s talking to her suppliers to get them to make sizes past a 22 in the new stock so keep a look out too if you’re interested in these.
It’s great to see a lot more brands starting to do wide fit shoes, from River Island launching some of their best styles in wide fit, to Lovedrobe launching shoes for the first time on site in 2016 and ASOS slowly filtering in a lot of wide fit styles and half sizes across the board, things are looking up! Of course we can’t forget New Look and Evans, who have been holding it down for the wide fit crew for some time now. I haven’t had a chance to try out any of the new season offerings just yet, I’m sure it won’t be long though as some of these shoes are just beautiful.
Embroidery is not going away this season, and these Suedette Embroidered Loafers from New Look (£27.99) are just dreamy! I’ve been looking for a pair like this so to find them in wide fit is just the best. They come in pink and black and I’m fearing for my bank balance as I’m struggling to choose between them.
I’ve also been searching for some bow front sneakers ever since I saw the Jeffrey Campbell ones launch, but alas, I’ve not been able to find any in wide fit until now! These White Bow Front Slip On Trainers (£18.99) are perfect and very reasonably priced to boot. (Get it?!)
You may remember my love of pink cross front mules in my AW16 accessories post, so I was delighted to see these wide fit beauties in Evans. The snakeskin heel on them is to die for. The Cross Front Mules (£35) also come in Khaki and Black but they have the same colour heels, whereas I like the contrast on the pink ones.
I also love to bring out the tan shoes when spring starts to be in the air, these Punchout Block Heel Sandal (£40) are just perfect for that and will look great with a mid blue cropped jean.
ASOS is leading the newcomers with over 200 styles of wide fit on their site right now (some of these are New Look brand too however) their ASOS brand is not to be sniffed at though, with both basics and more fashionable offerings. These jacquard pairs are my favourites with the Hundred Bow Sandal at £32 and the Jacquard Loafers at £22.
My final ASOS pick are these rose gold beauties. I’m after a gold pair for later this year and these tick all of the boxes: block heel, not too high and shiny – I think I may order them and see! ASOS Starling Pointed Heels (£35).
With only 16 styles on site the range is slightly limited. I loved the western boots they had in wide fit but I was too slow to buy in my size and they are close to being sold out now. These Western Style Shoe Boots (£48) are like the spring/summer version of them though, with open toes, and western buckle details on the sling back and I’m loving them.
Sometimes you should really invest in a shoe that will last the seasons, and Lovedrobe seem to offer that. These Scalloped Edge Grey Faux Suede Court Shoes (£55) are perfect for that and still have that bit of an edge over the standard court thanks to the scalloped edging at the heel.
I’ve loved Faith for a long time now, whilst I was at Uni my friend worked there so she always had the most gorgeous shoes and I’ve been a fan since. They seemed to stop selling Size 9 shoes last year, which was a disappointment to me as it meant I could only wear their sandals. However, I’ve now seen they’ve introduced 16 wide fit styles on Debenhams and some on ASOS and Next, so I may squeeze into an 8! Mainly offering Faith’s classic Court Shoe styles my faves are the Cliff Court Shoes (£35)
I really do think 2017 will be a good year for us wide fit gals if these picks are anything to go by! Bye bye basics and hello gorgeous shoes that just happen to be wider fitting, it’s about time and I can’t wait to see what else is in store as we get into the height of Spring Summer launches! Let me know if there’s any amazing shoes I’ve missed from this edit by hitting us up on our social channels!
Not only does February bring slightly lighter evenings and the promise of spring around the corner, it also brings Valentine’s Day. Loved by many, feared by some and hated by the rest it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. However, I’m all up for any kind of event that allows me to outfit plan. Plus as we’ve evolved into various connotations of the day like ‘Galentines’ Day it’s not just about having a partner to share it with, you can rock it being single too.
Of course I had to theme the outfits on something and what better than Pink (well, red actually but I didn’t want to be too cliche you know!)
Partners Night Out
My first outfit choice is what I’ll be wearing for Valentine’s dinner with my OH. Its already featured on my blog, as the guys at Wolf and Whistle sent it over for me to try out. The Ombré Floral Midi Dress (£65) is part of their new Curve range and I’m wearing a well fitting size 20 here (it goes up to a size 26). It’s great as the midi length is perfect for my height but will also look great on you gals that are shorter too, there’s nothing more crass than flashing your pants at dinner for anyone is there!? The print is beautiful and the straps are wide enough for a well supporting bra to be concealed beneath. Winner.
I paired it with a little clutch from Accessorize and these nude heels from MissGuided. Do not think for one minute these heels are comfy but for all the sitting down that happens at dinner they are fine!
Partners Night In
Well I had to include some lingerie didn’t I?! Personally I’ll be throwing on the PJ’s (see below) but for those that like a nice pretty underwear set then I’m crushing on this ASOS Curve Blush Fan Lace Set (£32) as it’s lightly padded and so pretty. It goes up to a size 42G and size 30 briefs, however there is a pretty non padded black or red one that’s beautiful that goes up to a size 44H, which I don’t think I’ve seen before from ASOS own brand. It isn’t pink so it doesn’t get included ‘officially’ in this edit but I had to draw your attention to it as it’s beautiful!
Girls Night Out
If you’re painting the town red then it’s time to ramp it up! I actually can’t remember the last time I had a night out properly, but if I was going on one I’d be wearing these Zip Side PU Treggings (£22) and this gorgeous Blush Pink Lace Top from Simply Be (£35). My sandals above would match this outfit too, but as they aren’t the best for dancing all night in I’d probably go for a platformed pair like these light pink velvet ones also from Simply Be (£29). I have a similar version in black which are some of the comfiest heels I own!
Girls Night In
More wine and nibbles than keys in a bowl for this slumber party so comfy is key! I’m a big fan of River Island Plus PJ’s, I have last season’s giraffe print which I love – their pink floral set is close to selling out so be quick. This pink satin fuchsia pair from our sponsors Nine X are affordable and super cute too, so I think I’ll be giving them a try out for sure! They go up to a 6XL which is the equivalent to a size 24.
Whatever you’re up to, I hope you look and feel fabulous and have a lovely day! Let us know what you get up to via our socials below!
Frosty mornings have started to be more frequent recently and it’s finally starting to feel like winter for me. Although I’m not a fan of getting up ten minutes earlier to de-ice my car of a morning, I am a fan of getting wrapped up and feeling all cosy when I do venture outside. In fact, when I’ve finally shifted the cold virus that everyone seems to have at the moment (shout out if you do, hang in there!) I can’t wait to take a lovely Sunday stroll in the crisp air.
Of course I can’t stay out in the cold that long so I prefer to layer up so I can shed my layers once inside – like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon if you will. Reality is me huffing and puffing trying not to break a sweat in front of the pubs 1000 degree fire whilst trying to tug my arm out of my cardy. So if you’re after this look too, or if you’re able to handle your layering with a little bit more grace, I’ve chosen a few of my favourite cardigans around right now.
Animal Print Cardigan – Manon Baptiste at Navabi (£48.74 on offer).
I’m not always a big animal print fan but when I saw this grey/camel leopard print combo I knew I had to have it! I had a pair of trousers in the same print a couple of years back and I always got so many compliments on the print, I’m hoping I’ll get the same in this cardy!
Beige Sequin Knit Cardigan – River Island Plus (£40)
This cardy comes with an added bit of subtle sparkle, and is available in black too for those of us who like to wear black 24/7! I opted to feature this colour though as I thought it was more spring like so would last that bit longer going into the spring / summer season. Heck, with the English weather I’d probably still be adding it to my outfit in July!
Red Cherry Cardigan – City Chic at Evans (£40)
This cardigan is so not my usual style but it’s so cute. I’m loving embroidery at the moment and this retro fine knit cardigan is just super cute. If you love your vintage styling it’s definitely a must have.
Fine Knit Off Shoulder Cardigan– ASOS Curve (£16)
Another fine kit selection, and lets be honest this is a top, but I had to include it as it’s super cute! I think it would look fab tucked into an A-Line skirt for another retro vibe.
Dogtooth Brushed Cardigan – Simply Be (£35)
I adore this one. Perfect for adding a pattern to a simple outfit and I think this would be great for the office too. I love the fact that it’s almost knee length, perfect to feel cosy in.
Stitched Edge Cape -Koko at Lovedrobe (now £22.50)
I think I’ve found my Butterfly Cardigan! It would be pretty hard to get caught up in this trying to get it off wouldn’t it. Maybe it’s where I’ve been going wrong and I should actually just wear capes from here on in?!
Let us know which one of the above is your favourite via the comments or on our Twitter!
There’s not always a lot to look forward to in January (well except for my birthday in my case) but overall it’s a pretty crummy month – we’ve already been writing about how to get through January, so take a look if you feel the same. My way of getting through the month is to occupy myself by looking at pretty new clothes and there’s usually a lot of them around once all the sales are over.
Of course I was straight on River Island to check out the new additions to their plus size range and needless to say all my birthday money was pretty much spent up. I narrowed my favourites to these top 5:
I first laid eyes on this top at the Curve Fashion Festival and have been stalking the site for it to arrive! The core range version has been available for a while so when this finally dropped mid December I ordered it straight away! I’d say it was true to size, but the Cami it comes with was super short so I had to use my own to ensure it met my trousers.
I love embroidery on pretty much anything so this beautiful jumper caught my eye straight away. I love the bright blanket stitch embroidery, and of course it’s my favourite non-colour, black. I showed it to my husband who often isn’t a fan of really trendy things but he loved it too – winner all round.
I was super excited to see they’d added this to the plus range, as I’d bought the purple version from the core range as I liked it so much. It’s fab for wearing over a Cami or with just a bra for a more daring look.
I love a bit of faux fur and I love how casual this is but the faux fur just makes it ‘extra’, you know?! I believe I would wear this alllll the time however the fact I have about ten coats means I won’t be able to buy this one anytime soon!
How cute is this v-neck, sleeveless winter floral maxi!?
Hopefully you like my picks and if you’d like to see any more features like this from other brands hit us up in the comments below or on twitter!
