Promoting small businesses is something that I really like to make an effort to do. I know how hard it is to be self employed, so any time that I can take to elevate smaller brands is time well spent in my eyes. As we approach Mother’s Day 2025 I’m looking at my favourite brands and what I would grab from them to make my Mum smile. Here are my five favourite small businesses for Mother’s Day 2025.
Rymermade
Rymermade is a card shop that was started by Sophie back in 2017, and over the years the shop has expanded to include badges, notepads and more. I always go to Rymermade first when I’m looking for a card for any occasion, because the designs are bold and bright, and totally hand drawn. I’m going for this ‘World’s Best Mum’ trophy card this Mother’s Day this year, not only because I have the best Mum ever and I want her to know it, but because I love how eye-catching the design is.
Calm Over Chaos
I found Calm Over Chaos on TikTok when I saw her have a postage mishap in which she was so excited to receive a large order that she paid £100 out of her own pocket to post it and took the learning curve like a champ, so I knew this was a brand I was going to enjoy supporting. The shop features self-published colouring books which are filled with all kinds of positive messages from prioritising self care, to taking down the patriarchy. I love finding ways for my Mum to get some quality chill time, so my pick for Mother’s Day would be the Be Kind to Your Mind book and a brand new set of pens.
Topsy Curvy
Every plus size person knows about Topsy Curvy and how great their clothes are, but they have totally been knocking it out of the park recently. They’ve got something for everyone, from the rainbow fans to the spooks queens, but what I love most is that you can put your own designs on their clothes too, so I would totally design something fun for my Mum this Mother’s Day on a nice slouchy hoodie so she feels wrapped up and cared for.
Scents by Sophie
There’s nothing I love quite as much as making my home and work space feel luxurious, and a great way to do this is with wax melts. I grabbed a big bundle of wax melts from Scents by Sophie just before Christmas, but as we move into a new season I definitely want to grab some more Spring and Summer themed melts and maybe even a room spray or two. I’d put Blush in my wax melter on Mother’s Day, with its fruity top notes to make the day a celebration but with the comfort of a musky support to make it feel cosy and homey.
Paper Lobster
Collette from Paper Lobster started her shop as a side hustle while on maternity leave where she sold stickers and prints, to now having expanded to an inclusive clothing range for both adults and children, mugs, key rings and more. Some of my favourite pieces from the shop include the pins and notepads, which is why I’d love to put a smile on my Mum’s face this Mother’s Day and get her a ‘Self Care Isn’t Selfish’ positivity box, which is a kit chock full of everything she would need to feel positive in gorgeous pin form, such as a pin that looks like Positivity Toner spray, and another that looks like a packet of Worry Wipes to wipe the worry away.
