I thought I would write today about why I love plus size bloggers! Although I have always been plus size and reasonably confident, I never really cared about fashion. I mean as fashion and trends go now, I still don’t massively care but I do like to look good and feel good in the clothes that I wore. But, it hasn’t always been like that.
When I was younger, I literally wore whatever clothes I could find that would fit. That sounds dramatic, but I didn’t realise that there were other options, actually back then there probably wasn’t. Looking back I remember in my 20’s when New Look Inspire came out. I bought two slogan t-shirts in a size 24 straight away. I couldn’t tell you now what the slogans said, I just remember the excitement of having one!
And then, I moved to London a few years ago (and stayed there for 2 years) and this is where I discovered a whole new world of fashion. Before then I was a jeans and tunic top kinda girl! Usually teamed with the most horrendously oversized black hoody.
Discovering Something New
My flatmate (the wonderful Leighanne over at Bump and Beyond) encouraged me to try a few dresses from Simply Be and I actually loved them. I did know about places such as Simply Be then, but it was still very much only the mainstream shops that I was aware about. She then told me about plus size bloggers and introduced me to a whole new world of media that I didn’t really know existed.
It was a real revelation to be able to see fat bodies in clothing that I didn’t know existed! I managed to learn about different brands I could shop at, different ways to style clothing and even that it was okay to wear exactly what I wanted and not care what others thought. It seems alien to me now that I ever thought differently! However I am grateful to have discovered something so life-changing.
The Positive Effect of Bloggers
As months went on, I become frustrated that there was a lack of size 26+ bloggers and that is when I launched my own blog – www.wannabeprincess.co.uk. I am really thankful for the opportunities this has given me and really feel lucky to have had some of the experiences I have had.
However, what I love most is that I now have a social media full of positivity. Yes, it isn’t always all singing and all dancing happiness, but ultimately I have cultivated my social media feeds. They’re now full of who I want to see and what I want to read, which has been massively beneficial to me!
We’re surrounded by media influences that tell us to change our bodies, lifestyles, habits etc which can be exhausting. So I created my own version of media that taught me something new. I can honestly say that has been amazingly good for my soul.
Body positive bloggers, plus size influencers, fat positive brands etc are all people you should be following!
