Apologies for the poor headline but with February 14th fast approaching, I’m already being bombarded with spam emails and adverts telling me how I should be spending the time. I really love special occasions but often the media puts such expectations on how we should be spending our time, that whatever we do can seem really poor in comparison.
The first thing I would say is that you shouldn’t ever let adverts, emails or social media dictate what you enjoy/what makes you happy. Just because you find a small gesture is something that makes your soul happy, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed because social media is full of grand gestures. At the end of the day, you have to live your best life and only you know what that is.
Looking After Yourself
Whether you’re in a relationship, surrounded by an amazing group of friends or someone that prefers to spend time on their own, I vote that you make this Valentines Day all about you. Of course, celebrate with your loved one if that is what makes you happy but spend some time on you too!
Even if it isn’t on the 14th, set aside some time where you can concentrate on yourself. Watch something good on TV, have a bath with an expensive bath-bomb or order a takeaway and eat it in your pants – whatever it is that makes you feel good because that really is what is most important.
The trick with me time, is not try and make sure it isn’t just done on a date the calendar says you deserve a little love. Set aside some time each month if you can just to do something for yourself and no one else. It’s impossible for me to say what you should do because only you know what you like but make it something good.
So, this Valentines Day, love yourself first!
