This is a post that I’ve wanted to write for so long but one thing or another gets in the way. Finally, I am sharing my top 10 makeup favourites! For those of you who don’t know, I’m a huge makeup enthusiast. I’m also a self trained makeup artist, but due to chronic pain I don’t take on clients – instead I just help out friends and family, and constantly have to get my mum all glammed up. I can create the most natural looks, to special effects looks, so I’d like to think that I’m a good person to listen to when it comes to makeup suggestions.
Some of these products have actually been my favourites for years now, one has been my favourite for a decade! I know that sounds wild but honestly nothing competes at all. In no particular order…
The Balm, Mary Lou Manizer Highlighter, £2o
This highlighter shines bright enough for all the Gods to see. It’s the most perfect highlighter on so many skin types. The Balm does have a slightly more pink highlighter, and a more bronzy highlighter, but this is the one for sheer GLOW. It doesn’t give off any powdery unwanted pigment, but at the same time it isn’t necessarily just throwing glitter on your face, it’s a real shimmer. I have several of these in my makeup bag just in case I can’t find one quick enough, I also have the smaller trio set for if I’m doing someone else’s makeup, or I want to try out a different look.
It’s a 10/10 highlight. Shop around though as it’s stocked at SO many places that you can end up grabbing this for around £16.
Can you remember those days when people didn’t think they needed eye primer? Oh how naive we were. I’ve tried a handful of eye primer but as soon as I tried this one, I knew I wouldn’t need another one again. A little goes a seriously long way with this, I actually still own the first one I ever bought 3ish years ago, and it still has some in that I take when travelling as it’s *slightly* less bulky. You need a slither, rub it all over your eye, and eyebrow to keep those in place too, and apply concealer on top before starting with your shadows. My entire face could fall off before my eyes even slightly moved thanks to this. Smashbox is seriously good for primers.

Also known as the best mascara in existence. This mascara can quite honestly make my eyes look better than false lashes, and I have a super old photo of baby GG (from 2011) with incredible lashes thanks to this mascara. It’s probably one of the first I ever used, and after a couple years of finding the best ways to apply it to get the most out of this, I’ve definitely mastered it. Whenever I watch people put mascara on, I do weep a little. This is a mascara where you only need to dip in once, then build, the ‘false lash effect’ really is in the movement and application. You need to WORK this into your lashes, you need to pull them up with the wand, make sure it’s evenly coated, and actually spend a bit of time placing your lashes with the wand. I know that sounds a lot of work, but for the effect? It’s worth it. Dip again after it’s completely dried to boost them up further, but don’t keep on dipping and adding lots of wet layers of mascara on top of each other, you’ll drag off product that’s partially set and you won’t see the growth in length that we all want. The main reason I’ve started wearing false lashes is because they’re actually quicker and just a tad more fluttery than my own.
Another product that I’ve been using for near on a decade. It looks silly to have such a cheap product in the mix but seriously, it’s amazing. Especially for super pale skin. I can bake with it, I can just refresh my skin, set it with a brush, it’s such a fantastic pressed powder. I really have tried to follow the hypes on loose powders, and all the big names, but they have honestly never compared at all. They either ruin my base or turn me 3 shades darker, and generally just disappoint. Every now and again this powder disappears from EVERYWHERE and it sends me into an utter panic, so much so that last time this happened I was compelled to order 20 from the only site I could find it on. I can’t cope with the thought of trying to find something that compares! If you haven’t tried it, it’s £2, how can you not?
Collection KNOW they have an amazing concealer. It really does compete and win over some high end names in terms of a high coverage, and quality concealer that actually does last and stay in place all day. This can cover anything. I dread to think about how many of these I’ve owned over the years as I never buy one at a time, it’s either 3 or 6 or whatever they have in stock, as this one tends to sell out A LOT. The only other concealer I actually rebuy is MAC Pro Longwear, because it’s super pale, and very high coverage too. But I still prefer this one because of the super affordable price tag.
I’m not very fond of Benefit as a company, or any other of their products, but their new brow collection did impress me and especially this little beauty. When I was in Spain last year, and the heat was honestly so much that only my eye makeup could sort of survive it, this was the only thing that stopped me from looking like Voldemort. Gimme Brow adds little fibers onto your eyebrow hairs to make them look thicker and longer, it makes the hairs look fuller, and it has a great pigment too. I always opt for shade 4/5, as I like a strong brow and I now own 3 bottles of it. It sounds strange, but this product actually gets better the more you use it, as the more it dries out, I feel like the fibers have the chance to work more without such a wet formula. Nothing is worse than a product that is unusable once it starts to dry out, but this is just the complete opposite. There’s definitely cheaper alternatives out there, but I’m sticking with this one for now!
It got to a point that it would have honestly been easier to change my online names to MAC DIVA, than to type it out as many times as I had to during the first few years of blogging. I had become obsessed with Mac Diva, I wore it constantly, everywhere, everyday, it was the perfect shade for my pale skin and red hair. Everyone complimented me, everyone wanted to know what it was, and so, I obviously still wear it to this day. I think I have around 5, it’s another ‘I need spares in case I can’t find it quick enough’ product, everyone does this, right? Mac lipsticks are such beautiful formulas, the matte ones really do look matte, they’re a comfortable wear, they last for hours on end, they’re decently priced, and they smell like vanilla. I only have a few Mac shades, but then I have several of those spares.
Thanks to my amazing clients, I finally tried out Limecrime and it’s love. They really are worth the hype, I mix them with other things, wear them alone, and I always chose to wear Limecrime when I know I’m eating out as they last SO well against food. Only the very center of my lips seem to wear away and I don’t have to worry about bleeding at all. I actually only own the one at the minute, as after trying it I wondered if all liquid lipsticks are this impressive and set out to try more. Obviously, I was disappointed because most really don’t compare, even some brands that people RAVE about (I’m looking at you Kat Von D!), don’t come near to the quality or staying power.
I first worked with Makeup Atelier Paris a couple of years ago and since then I have been obsessed with their foundation. It’s honestly the best one I have ever tried. It’s so creamy to apply, it blends incredibly, it’s great medium to high coverage, the colour range is beyond impressive, and it really is waterproof. I’m quite a hot person and I get very hot easily in crowded spaces (which you tend to be in a lot as a blogger) and this foundation has proved itself time and time again. I can literally be pouring with sweat from my forehead, covered by my fringe, and people will be saying how much they love my makeup. This foundation survives it all! It’s such a good price and I would easily pay more for it. They even now have sample bottles meaning you can try out a couple shades to find your perfect match. I tend to keep these for when I’m doing overnight stays too, as it holds the perfect amount of foundation for a couple days! I cannot recommend this foundation enough, I’ve even got my mum to start using it, and my friends!
I suddenly became really unhappy with all my liquid eyeliners, and the ones I had to review at the time were pitiful, so I picked up the Stila, Kat Von D, and a couple budget brands but this Stila Waterproof Liner came out on top. It’s such an awesome price for such a intense black liner. It goes over the top of anything and it’s so pigmented. I love the pen as it’s really thin meaning you can create the sharpest flicks and it works at any angle (which I don’t know why anyone would produce a liner that doesn’t, but they’re out there!) This is definitely going to be my go to from now on.
Have you tried any of these before?
