I don’t know what it is about Spring, but it always makes me feel so ready for a home makeover. It’s kind of like Spring cleaning, but I am so ready for a revamp and itching to dive in to all the homewares I can find! My favourite room to make over is definitely my bedroom. I am prone to getting bored, and feeling like things have got a little stagnant, so a little zhuzh is always welcome with me. Of course, I can’t strip the walls and change all of my furniture every Spring, so I make do with fresh new accessories to make my life happy.
It sounds so simple, but a quick change of cushions on your bed can totally change your colour scheme. I like to go for muted colours interspersed with sparkles or sequins so that the glitz really pops. I also love the look of novelty cushion designs, where cushions are in fun shapes like cats or cacti. It’s a great way to keep your colour scheme game strong, while throwing a bit of fun in to the design.
When I was a kid I never understood why people would have ornaments dotted around their homes. It seemed like unnecessary clutter that needed to be dusted. Yet now I think they’re an adorable way to get my personality across. It’s become a good way to compromise with my husband too: he displays his sci-fi stuff alongside my displays of cutesy or witchy memorabilia. One shelf in our house has a Judge Dredd badge, a phrenology head, a crystal ball and Han Solo’s blaster, to give you an idea! Our bedroom is much more feminine (because I chose the decor!) and I love the idea of delicate and more ornate furnishings. When I was growing up my Mum had a couple of historical busts in my home, and I am absolutely lusting after the Diana bust that I’ve seen on Lionshome right now. I also love the idea of really quirky ornaments, as another way to throw in some of my own vibe into the decor.
Bedding and Curtains
The most obvious way to change up your whole colour scheme without changing the walls is to pick some new curtains and bedding. Not only do they take up a whole lot of what you can see in your bedroom, but the sun shining through coloured curtains changes the entire ambiance of your bedroom and can really give you a fresh new vibe. My favourite bedding right now would be a cosy grey bedspread with some blush sequinned cushions on top. I’d make sure I paired them with some blush curtains to make sure the room stayed bright and airy, because there is nothing better than walking in to a bright room that makes your heart happy.
