Recently over on Twitter, I started a feed on achievements by fat women. I tend to use social media to rant and vent – especially guilty of calling out brands when I think they’ve done something wrong. So, I wanted to cultivate my space a little. I wanted to celebrate the good things fat people are doing. Sometimes I am so used to seeing my fat friends achieve greatness, that I forget that this is not the norm. It is something that should be celebrated and shared. Here are some fat women who have achieved something recently that we need to celebrate.
The wonderful Stephanie Yeboah announced on Twitter this month that she is taking up blogging full-time. This is a massive step and the fact that her online content should be enough to support her is something that we should relish in. Many of us blog alongside “standard” day jobs because, as fun as blogging is, making it cover the bills can be tough!
Lucia Goes Independent
This week, I was so proud to see U Can’t Wear That‘s Lucia write an article for the Independent. It’s always amazing to see people of colour having their say, especially on important issues like this one. She talked about the recent Twitter storm caused by Rebel Wilson, so if you haven’t read what Lucia has to say yet, I would head over there now!
Fuller Figure Fuller Curls
The lovely Hayley at Curves and Curls sent a tweet this week to say she had a meeting with Georgina at Fuller Figure Fuller Bust and vintage dress company Voodoo Vixen. I personally love Voodoo Vixen, and think a collaboration with these two fantastic bloggers would be amazing, so fingers crossed this is what is happening!
Plus Equals a Winner
Honourary shout out to Plus Equals. Plus Equals are abrand that truly does clothes for all genders and all sizes. They currently offer up to UK size 40 as standard but can make to measure any size. Recently creator Jazmin Lee won a Princes Trust, Enterprise Award – how good is that?
And of course, lets not forget the achievement of setting up an entirely plus-positive magazine! To be honest, I could be here all day talking about what fat women are achieving because we really are proving a force to be reckoned with. If you see fat people achieving greatness, make sure you shout out on social media. It’s more important than you realise!
