Only in the last few years have I really adored being able to change rooms around and experiment with decorating. Of course, I can’t do any of it myself with my chronic pain, but I do love supervising. In the last few years I’ve transformed two extremely sad looking rooms, into feature wall mini paradises, if I do say so myself! We’ve never had a feature wall in the house, especially not a bright coloured one. So my parent’s didn’t really want to do it, but I insisted and now, they love them! Making my first tip of ways to transform a room….
Paint a feature wall a bright, bold colour to give the room a really inviting feeling. Or depending on which room it is, a more relaxed feel. In my office I have a bright teal, it’s meant to be powering and motivating. I’ve matched this with little trinkets, pen pots, blankets, and other things to create a room accent colour. You can also do this with pillows, rugs, curtains, vases, and other decorative things to give it that real ‘co-ordinated feel. Obviously you don’t want to over do it, but adding a colour to a room can really transform it hugely, without much effort. Especially if the room was just a neutral colour beforehand.
Change The Floor
This sounds a little drastic but hear me out. We changed our carpeted living room to wooden floors and the change is unreal. There are so many perks to laminate flooring, as well as that it can completely transform a space. It’s extremely easy to put down, it comes in planks that just slot together. Most of the time it can even come with underlaying already on it! Laminate flooring doesn’t fade with excessive sunlight, it doesn’t scratch easily, or stain, it’s incredibly convenient and easy to clean. Great for homes with growing families, pets, and basically most houses. You can get it in different colours, patterns, and really create the perfect space for you and your home.
Make a house a home with textures. Adding rugs can give a home a cosy feeling, they can also be pretty practical too as having things like rugs help keep the warmth in a room. Mirrors are a great way to make spaces look and appear bigger, of course they’re handy too as everyone needs a mirror. You can get different designs and mirror frames with patterns and colours to help transform your space even more. Wallpaper is another great way to add textures to a room, whether it’s for a feature wall, or all over, a textured wallpaper can really add some depth.
Redesigning a room can be fun and simply, try moving furniture around and see what works best. Move in pieces from other rooms. Of course depending on the size of your furniture, you might need a hand with this. But we’d all have a go at rearrange our rooms at the most random of times. Maybe try reading up on feng shui and the best way to balance out a room. Like having the bed in the middle of the wall with bedside tablets on either side.
