As a size inclusive plus size brand, offering everything from jackets to dresses, Apples & Pears has something for everyone! With plenty of funky prints, polkadots and peplums in sizes up to a UK32 with a seriously affordable price point, you are sure to find what you’re looking for. I’d love to share a few of my favourites with you all, so sit back, grab a cuppa and enjoy…
First off is this absolute stunner of a dress; the pop art print is gloriously colourful without being too garish. This dress is a fun and summery addition to your wardrobe – but it can still bring some colour into your Autumn wardrobe too. Pair it with some sparkly ballerina flats or smart high heels and you’re ready for a night with the girls or even a Sunday brunch.
They say that everyone should have a little black dress in their wardrobe but in my eyes replace that with a little red dress, especially for this season where red is a really big trend. This dress is saucy and classic, perfect for a romantic meal or flirty drinks at a bar.
I love the grecian style of this dress, with the cowl neckline and striking purple it reminds me of a modern day Meg (from the Disney film Hercules). Again this is another dress from Apples and Pears that is multi purpose, great for a relaxing day in town or pair with a killer pair of heels and you’re ready to party!
Along with a little red dress, I always like to have a little statement jacket and this certainly hits the spot! It comes in this beautifully autumnal red or a lovely blue so you have two great colour options. Plus you can easily personalise it with some pins or a statement brooch.
It wouldn’t be an article from me if it didn’t have at least one tropical print! I love the colours and the style, it could easily be worn as a gorgeous pin up outfit or a summer dress. I love the versatility of this dress!
I hope you loved my roundup of my favourites from Apples and Pears, have a browse and let us know your thoughts or if you have any favourites yourself then please share them with us!
As someone who is committed to promoting fat positivity and fat acceptance in every way I can and every format I can, body art can be the perfect and lasting way to express yourself. Why not adorn your body with a powerful image of a fat positive merbabe, superhero or bad ass quote? It’s truly inspiring and rebellious. I personally have 3 fat positive tattoos, 4 if you count Ursula and plan to have more (mine are number 10 on the list!) and I know I’m not the only one out there, so with that in mind I’ve done the searching for you and done a little round up post showing a few of my favourites on Instagram.

There we go, pizza, fat babes and thunder thighs galore! I believe that body art is a fun and lasting way of getting Fat Acceptance out there, of making it as visible as our fat bodies and it’s a message that lasts for a lifetime.
Do you have any fat positive tattoos? Or a favourite artist that does chubby pin ups?
If so, please do share with us and let us know your thoughts!
We’ve had many Instagram roundups of beautiful plus sized babes wearing outfits that are so gorgeous it hurts, but who says fashion is just for plus size women? I’ve selected a few of my favourite plus size male Instagrammers for you to follow who show that style isn’t limited to any gender!
I’m loving the spring time pastel look of this outfit, it’s casual and stylish. And those sunglasses! They are to die for.
Denim jackets are making a big comeback this year (my inner 90’s alt girl is screaming in joy over this) and I love how he’s customised the jacket with badges and pins to make it into a statement piece.
Look how happy he is! Stylish in all black with gold touches on his zippers and accessories is a simple but stunning look.
I need this jacket in my life. It’s a stunning emerald green, shiny, and a bomber jacket to boot! He’s paired it with simple black jeans with rips and white low-tops.
Even when casual Notoriously Dapper looks..well…dapper!
I have to admit, this is my favourite look. His purple mohawk and pastel pink top with those sunglasses is simple but so striking and I’m in love!
I’m a firm believer in the power of the suit. The Big Fashion Guy looks amazing, confident and just wow!
Speaking of suits…..and socks! Matching socks, tie and handkerchief? You can’t go wrong. And a bowler hat to boot!
Again, a simple denim jacket making a big statement. The details of the patches just pulls the entire outfit together.
I love the mix of plaid and pastel colours, it’s casual but so stylish! Who says you can’t look good and be casual?
So there you go; 10 stylish plus sized men that are showing the world that you don’t need to be of a certain body type to be a fashion king! Do you have any favourite stylish plus size male Instagrammers that we might have missed? Be sure to comment and share.
One of the final hurdles the body positivity movement has to jump is the notion that not only is it okay to be fat, it is actually okay to look fat. We are bombarded with floaty dresses and tunic tops to hide our rolls, when in reality a good dose of VBO never hurt anybody! Visible Belly Outline (or VBO) is exactly what it says on the tin: when the outline of your stomach is showing through your clothing. Before the last couple of years, it was used as a negative descriptor; “you can totally see my VBO in this top!”. But as we body positive goddesses are prone to doing, we have taken the term and flipped it completely on its head. Flaunting your VBO has become a political statement and a fat middle finger at societal standards for beauty. This fierce group of gorgeous gals prove that you don’t have to follow any rules to be an absolute bombshell.
So there you go, it just shows that you don’t have to be any one type of body to show off your midriff and revel in your rebellion! Summer is on it’s way, so ladies, crack out those crop tops and show some skin!
Let’s talk about my favourite winter style, faux fur jackets! With winter at our doorstep and Christmas just round the corner, a good faux fur jacket is my must have item for the cold bitter days ahead! Plus, they look stunning with a vintage style twist.
I’ve always found it hard to find a decent plus size faux fur jacket that fits, there are a lot of jackets out there but not many that cater to the plus size body. Again, brands really need to work on that!
There are some really cute ones being sold in the US but customs can really hurt the budget, so I’ve come up with a little guide on where to buy in the UK.
Asos have done a really good job with this one. I love the overall colour and cut of this jacket, the cream colour makes it a lovely neutral piece, so you can mix and match with accessories for any style. Style it with some cute skinny jeans, ankle boots and jumper and you’re ready to hit the high street to get some last minute shopping done.
You can never have enough leopard print in my opinion. Our lovely Sophie rocks this coat, it’s the perfect combination of sass and sophistication. Finally, with the size going to a 32, it’s a big hit with us at SMB.
If you’re looking for something a little more luxurious, then Navabi is where it’s at. With a longer cut, this coat aims to keep you warm and glamorous. Perfect for a Christmas party or night out. Personally I’d pair it with a 20s flapper dress and sparkly heels.
So, this is my favourite. I personally own this coat and I call it the Beetlejuice pimp coat of dreams. The long fur has a luxurious feel to it and the stripes make it fun! Furthermore, it’s quirky, warm and a must have.
Let us know what you think, are there jackets we might have missed? SMB would love to hear from you.
I don’t know about you but I am loving the recent release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Full of magic, mayhem, mythical beasts and to top it all off, it’s based in 1926! Which means the fashion is astounding, full of frippery and flapper dresses.
If the film has inspired you like me, I have the perfect brand for you to get your flapper on, Gatsbylady! With sizes up to UK32 and a wide range of flapper dresses, shoes and accessories, you can have fun looking through their website for hours. Whether you’re a fierce Gryffindor, proud Hufflepuff, no-maj (muggle), or adore Queenie like I do, then GatsbyLady have it all.
With all that in mind, I’ve picked a few of my favourite dresses that are perfect to wear while going Niffler hunting in New York or partying the night away for Christmas or New Year.
First of all is Beverley Vintage inspired Flapper dress in champagne. The colour reminds me of Queenie (for people who haven’t seen the film yet, Queenie is amazing!), the detail and cut is simply divine and such a show stopper. Throw in a gorgeous gold headband, sparkly heels and you’re good to go!
If you’re looking for a Gryffindor inspired dress, then the Edith Vintage inspired flapper dress is the one for you. The rich wine colour combined with the gold details make this dress a great Christmas party outfit.
Last but not least, the Francesca inspired vintage dress, a classic little black dress, with gold details and beading, it reminds me so much of the cute little dress that Tina wears in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, adding a gold headband really completes the look.
If Fantastic Beasts has inspired you like it has me, get your flapper on with GatsbyLady and be sure to show all of us at SMB!
This Autumn/Winter we are being treated to an array of beautiful and striking prints from so many plus size retailers. The options are endless so whether you want a print to make you feel sassy or one to make you stand out from a crowd, there’s going to be the perfect print for you. I’ve been scrolling through the internet and found out some of my favourites from some of our favourite brands!
Simply Be are constantly updating with incredible clothes and prints. This sheer tropical themed shirt dress from Koko is amazing. It gives all the vibes of summer and tiki with the style of Autumn. It’s a gorgeous print and it’s a great staple for your wardrobe as a layer option.
What I love about this print from Lovedrobe is how the mustard stripes really make the blue stand out. Mixed in with the black and white, it makes this shirt a great addition to any girl’s wardrobe as the nights draw in. You could definitely glam this up or have it as a casual option. We love versatile clothes!
This print from Navabi is WOW, fun and just so bright! It might be a little bit too busy for some, with the different patterns within the print but I adore it. It makes the perfect eye-catching winter coat, with the blue fur adding a little extra warmth and glamour.
You can never go wrong with cats. Well, unless you don’t like cats of course, but still, it’s a very cute print. Even if you aren’t a cat fan, it’s a quirky print with a vintage feel to it. Perfect for those who like the pin up look too. We do love Lady V! They also have this incredible Hooting Owl print dress, it has such a cute and warm feeling to it, it’s definitely going to be a sell out!
What I’m loving about AW16 so far is that a lot of brands are steering away from the stereotypical dark prints and colours but going towards more fun, bright and cute prints. Which is perfect in my opinion, as a girl who clings on to the summer months for as long as she can, these prints are just brilliant.
What do you make of my favourite prints? Do you have a print that you’re loving this year? Feel free to share your thoughts and what you have loved about AW16.
Autumn Layers Without Covering Up with Wingz
Autumn is here and so are all the lovely trends and lines for AW16. Mustard is a must have colour, sequins are on everything (which I’m very much loving!) and layers are a girl’s best friend. There are some really gorgeous bomber jackets out in the plus size fashion market at the moment and some really gorgeous cardigans.
But, sometimes a nice cardigan or jumper can make me feel like I’m ruining an outfit. Sometimes you just want to show off that gorgeous dress without having to resort to a cardigan or jumper to stave off the cold. Or, if you’re like me, you want to cling onto summer for as long as you possibly can, still wear bright floral prints and rock a light airy dress. You’re not QUITE willing to trade in your summer clothes for those winter jeans and knee high boots just yet.
Here’s where Wingz™ come in, sleeves that you can wear under any outfit, so you can get some warmth without covering up. For when you don’t want to layer up or search for the perfect cardigan to match your dress or outfit.
They come in a few variants but the ones I’ve chosen for this are the new lace ones, which come in black and white. I’ve paired mine with my Hell Bunny Sunflower dress. Still bright and summery while in October! They also have some pretty good stretch to them, which is great for a plus size garment. I will admit that I found them a little fiddly to wear, only because I have such tiny little shoulders that they slipped off a bit! Something to be mindful of before trying them out. Nothing that a bit of tape, or a pin can’t handle though.
So readers, if you want to prepare yourself for Autumn without the layers, then keep Wingz™ in mind if you fancy adding sleeves to a summer or sleeveless outfit.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my little AW16 fashion tip! If you have any little ones of your own, please do comment and share!
