So many of our lovely readers here at She Might Be are Mums (or Mums-to-be!), so I wanted to put together a couple of items I’ve come to realise are essentials in my first four months as a mother.
A Car Seat
It goes without saying – but safety first, kids! I purchased my car seat for Jasper long before he was born and boy is there a selection. I may have made a bit of a boo boo with mine in that he already appears to be growing out of it and he’s just shy of 4 months. Look for a good quality, highly tested seat that is practical. You can get all sorts now, from ISOFIX seats to the good old fashion strap ins (almost had you there!) My ISOFIX car seat is super duper easy as you literally clip it in and leave the clamps in the car, but BOY is that seat heavy. I’m actually on the hunt for a new car seat- so MUMMIES I CALL YOU! PLEASE HELP!
A Baby Mirror
Now, this is super useful for me. Before I purchased my mirror I couldn’t see Jasper. I could hear little whimpers or sounds and it left me a little unnerved. Once the mirror was installed it made it super easy to quickly glance over in the mirror to check he was happy and settled in his little chair.
A Back Seat Organiser
Very useful for on the go. I forgot my changing bag the other day but luckily I’d popped a few spare in here just incase. It’s great for a spare bottle, changing equipment and maybe a book or toy for when they get older. I particularly like that you can wash this, cause let’s be honest… baby sick ain’t cute and gets EVERYWHERE. The Safety 1st one I have actually fits any car thanks to it’s universal straps. I had a bit of a palaver trying to bend into place to fit it, but then Husband came to the rescue and we were off.
A Car Boot Mat
BOY do those pram wheels get mucky. Especially with the British weather we’ve been having. Me and my husband picked up a mat on eBay for pretty cheap and it’s basically saved our car boot. It also means I don’t have to hoover the car!
Is there anything else you can recommend for the car if travelling with a little one? Leave a comment below!
